Review: Rimmel Waterproof Gel Eyeliner

Rimmel Waterproof Gel Eyeliner

Colour 001 Black

Est. £6.49

0.07 oz 2g

Rimmel Says:

'The fantastic professional Rimmel London Glam Eyes Gel Eyeliner helps to reduce smudges and smears leaving absolutely nothing but the sharpest of lines behind.'

As a big fan of another one of Rimmel’s eyeliners, I decided to try this one to see if it was as good, or even better. I’ve heard a lot about gel eyeliners, and how a lot of people prefer them so that was another incentive to give this one a try. I know there are better ones out there but they’re also a bit more expensive. Start out small!

The packaging as far as practicality goes is really good. The gel is in the see-through plastic part of the tube, and the rest is the lid. Or is it? If you pull on the end of the handle, out comes a very neat little brush. It looks great, small enough to fit in your make up back but big enough to be usable.

Everything is a handy size, I can hold it all in one hand!

I tested the gel out with the brush on my hand first. Just to get a feel of the brush and the consistency of the gel. It produces a nicely thick line with good coverage with just one swipe. Looks good on my hand, now for my eyes!

The brush isn’t too bad on the first look, but when it comes to using the gel on your eyes, the length of the brush becomes a little bit of a problem. It’s not drastic, but it’s hard to get a good grip and precision with it. It wouldn’t be a problem to get a separate brush if you found it difficult, though.

This is the gel freshly put on. You can tell by the shine that it's still wet and a nice dark colour. It produced a nice thick line too, all in all, not bad.

The gel itself seems to go nicely on the brush and goes onto the eye quite well. The only problem I did have was that it took a little while to dry so I ended up smudging it slightly and it got a bit everywhere. Because of this, I left what was on there, on, and let it dry. To save myself from using it again and waiting for it to dry (I was in a little bit of a rush) I just filled in the gaps with a liquid eyeliner.

Blurry close up on the eye put on. This was before any other make up was put on, so the finished result would be more improved with mascara and such.

I’m sure with more use of the gel and a bit more practice it would come out a lot better. I’m definitely not going to give up with it. It’s a nice alternative to my favourite liquid eyeliner.

  • Small size with the brush in the lid.
  • Dark colour.
  • Thick line.

  • Takes a little too long to dry.
  • Brush handle might be a bit hard to use for some.

If, after a few more tries I get a little better at applying it, then I’d definitely buy it again. It’s a good product for the money you pay. I would definitely recommend it if you were interested in trying a gel eyeliner, it's a good starting point.

Weekend Buys!

Here's a quick run down of what I bought this weekend!

I went for a stroll through my town and went through boots and saw a lovely offer, 3 for 2! On most of the make up.

Firstly I picked up..

Rimmel's 60 Seconds in 840 Blue Eyed Girl.

I was instantly drawn to this colour, it's what made me stop and buy the deal!

This is the polish with just one coat on. (excuse the mess!) I think the coverage was just enough, so I didn't do a second. The colour is so nice, I can't wait until my nails grow back a bit more so I can do a full set with this colour!

Price: £3.69

Next in the 3 for 2 deal...

More Polish! And again by Rimmel too.

This is Rimmel's I Heart Lasting Finish in 193 Black Cherries.

Up close you can see a slight reddy-purple colour in the bottle, very dark and glossy.

One coat.

And two coats.

It's a really nice colour on. I think I might paint my toes with this first!

Price: £2.99

Lastly in the deal I picked up..

Rimmel's new Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in 001 Black. It comes with a small brush in the handle.

No swatches for this one yet, but I'm going to try it out, see if I like it and possibly do a review. I haven't used a gel liner before so I'm going to see what this one is like.

Price: £6.49

As the second polish was the cheapest, it was the one I got for free. All together I walked away spending just £10.18. Not too shabby.

As you can tell, I have quite a fancy for Rimmel products! They work well for me, are reasonably priced and they have a wide range of products and colours. Love it!

Good day, dears!

Review: Rimmel Professional Liquid Eyeliner.

Rimmel Professional Liquid Eyeliner

Colour 001 Ebony Black

Est. £5.29

3.5ml

Rimmel Says:

‘Rimmel Glam'Eyes Liquid Eye Liner is the ultra precision liquid eye liner, its professional brush delivers the finest line to give you exceptional results.’

This is my favourite liquid eyeliner, and I’ve been using it for years. I’d usually get it from Boots and it lasts for ages. I’m not sure if they do this exact one any more, but they do one which I believe to be the same, just rebranded. It’s called ‘Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Eyeliner’. From what I can see, it’s the same product, just newer out. (I’ve had mine for a while!)

It’s an attractive shaped tube and the part which holds the liquid seems to be of a large size so that’s good. It has a long handle for better grip and easy precision. Nice to hold and easy to use.

On the bottom is a single line and on the top is the line coloured in a bit more and thickened up. It has a very thin brush so you can get really defined lines. It goes on smooth but brings out a thick line, and fills out the colour well. Not much need to go over it a lot, which is good. It doesn’t take too long to apply to get the desired effect.

A few terrible pictures of the eyeliner on (I’m not too good at close up shots!). There’s no other make up on so it looks very basic, but it’s just to show how easy it goes on and simple it is to do. You can do thin lines with the brush or thicker with ease, depends on how you like your liner.

This is a really great product for the price, and I will definitely be buying it again when this one runs out. Hopefully the newer tube will be the same product!

Definite recommendation.
